A global and community perspective
Dr. Guzmán’s scientific perspective is informed by hands-on public health work in international and community settings.
During global health fieldwork in Uganda, he carried out field-based malaria diagnostic microscopy and participated in vaccination outreach and administration, HIV testing and counseling, and infectious disease prevention.
Earlier, through the University of Michigan’s Summer Enrichment Program, he worked with Latino Family Services in Detroit, operating a mobile needle-exchange program and coordinating community health outreach, including mobile pediatric dental services and HIV prevention activities.
These formative experiences continue to inform Dr. Guzmán’s approach to clinical science, healthcare innovation, and the delivery of evidence-based care across diverse populations.
